Red-hot Alberson gets CLMA win at Thomas County
COLBY, Kan. (June 17) — Series points leader Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., capped a three-victory weekend by capturing Sunday’s Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series event at Thomas County Speedway.
Alberson, who won the previous CLMA Southern event at Aztec (N.M.) Speedway on June 9, earned $1,200 for the flag-to-flag victory in his Dave Deetz-owned MasterSbilt Race Car.
Scott Lewis of Henderson, Colo., was the runner-up while Dave Garmann of Brighton, Colo., finished third. Hometown driver Brad Wagoner and Deetz, of Las Cruces, N.M., rounded out the top five finishers. Terry Boushee of Bennett, Colo., was running in the top five late, but last-lap contact with Wagner dropped Boushee back to 10th.
Before heading to Kansas, Alberson grabbed weekly victories at El Paso (Texas) Speedway Park and his hometown Southern New Mexico Speedway.
