STEWART, Ohio (July 26) — Tim Dohm earned $3,000 for winning Friday’s Jack Shutts Memorial at Skyline Speedway, leading the final eight laps despite major damage to his rear spoiler after catching a piece of Tyler Carpenter’s rollover accident.

Dohm took the checkers ahead of polesitter Josh McGuire of Grayson, Ky., who finished on a deflating tire, while Chris Carpenter, Ralph Withem and K.C. Burdette rounded out the top five. Tyler Carpenter led most of the first 22 laps but was among drivers failing to finish, 11th in the 18-car field.

"This track was racy all over tonight,” Dohm said. "Perhaps the best I've seen it. The straights were tacky and you could really drive it in hard. But the main thing is I think the right rear tire finally kicked in for me. It got some heat in it and the car just really took off.”

Tyler Carpenter got the jump on McGuire at the outset with Chris Garnes hot on his heels early, takig command to lead laps 6-7. But Carpenter was back out front on a lap-eight restart to lead through the middle stages of the 30-lapper before Garnes jumped to the high side to go ahead again on lap 18.

Carpenter used in the inside line to regain the point once again on lap 21 while Dohm battled McGuire for third.

Carpenter’s demise came on lap 23 when he got too low, snagging an infield tire barrier and flipping. The incident left Dohm with part of his spoiler torn off on the right rear of his race car as the red flag waved.

Garnes was set to inherit the lead for the restart, but mechanical problems forced him pitside, and Dohm led the rest of the way.
