Boggs leads 30 laps for first BoB win since '03

August 30, 2008, 11:11 am
From series reports

ISOM, Ky. (Aug. 29) — Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., led all 30 laps at Mountain Motor Speedway for his first O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series victory in more than five years. Boggs earned $3,000 in outrunning eastern Kentucky veteran Raymond Nichols in a race slowed by three cautions. Larry Gray of Lexington, Ky., finished third followed by Shon Flanary of Mount Carmel, Tenn., and Hall of Fame driver Rick Aukland of Zanesville, Ohio.

After a botched first start, Boggs took command early with Flanary, Nichols, Gray and Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky., in tow. A lap-eight spin by Royce McGowan slowed the action. Boggs stayed in command through the middle stages of the race and McGowan's second spin brought out a lap-20 caution and ended his night. Boggs pulled away the rest of the way while Nichols slipped by Flanary for second on lap 24 in a futile bid to catch the winner.

Notes: Boggs drives a Swartz Race Car sponsored by Miller Bros. Coal, Hawkeye Trucking, Appalachian Flooring, Graphic Impressions, McDonald’s, MAC Metal Sales, Richard A. Mitchell Inc., Hall Brothers Truck Repair, Tri-State Oxygen, Clay Tire Sales, Perry County Tire and Hoosier Race Tires. ... His fourth career series victory was his first since May 30, 2003, at Thunder Ridge Speedway near Prestonsburg, Ky. ... Tyrel Todd was the PPM Racing Products Hard Charger by advance five spot to finish 11th. ... The series wraps up Labor Day weekend with a Saturday event at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky., a quarter-mile track promoted by part-time racer Chuckie May.
