Provinzino gets fourth career victory at Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (July 19) — Former track champion Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing, Minn., won from outside the front row Thursday at Grand Rapids Speedway for a $2,500 victory on the WISSOTA Challenge Series.

Provinzino outran polesitter Harry Hanson of Eveleth, Minn., — the reigning track champion and current points leader — for his fourth career series victory. David McDonald of Huron, S.D., finished third followed by series points leader John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., and Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn.

Notes: Provinzino’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Dave Walters Homes, Joe Provo Race Wear and Provinzino Race Cars. ... Provinzino’s winning purse was boosted by $500 by Win of Lose, Steve’s Buying, the regular sponsor of the Late Model division at Grand Rapids. ... Provinzino’s previous series victory came last season at Grand Rapids. ... Jeffrey Massingill of Keewatin, Minn., started 24th and improved to 10th. ... Marshall Fegers, who finished 12th, had a flat tire near the race’s midpoint. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Terry Lillo, Roger Paolo, Tim Carlson, Jim Morris, Jay and Greg Ferris. ... The series, rained out Wednesday in Ogilvie, Minn., is back in action Friday at Amsoil Speedway in Superior, Wis., for a $3,000-to-win event.
